Your guess as to what this is is as good as mine.
It kinda reminds me of Michael Slack’s work… just not as awesome.
So I started playing the ukulele a couple months back (”playing” in the most generous sense of the word) and the tiny instrument has since formed a special place in my heart. Lately I’ve noticed that they have been appearing all around me: on the little scraps of paper that I keep beside my desk to doodle on, in my sketchbooks, and sometimes, in my illustrations of hat lovin’ flamingos.
The blog has finally been given a face lift! Fantastic!
I’l be making changes here and there over the next few weeks so if you come across any part of the site that is broken, funky, or weird, shoot me an email and let me know, won’t you?
Thanks, rocket!
Here is a sketch that I did before I started working on my piece for TerribleYellowEyes. At the time I was trying to get the likenesses of the Wild Things down since it had been a while since I had sat down to read the book and really admire the illustration work. There are several more pages of these types of sketches, so, once I can make myself sit down and scan them, I’ll post them here on the blog.
So Cory Godbey asked me a while back to contribute a piece to his new website TerribleYellowEyes.com, a tribute site to that classic book we love. After a few weeks of starting and stopping, I was finally able to finish it last night. If you’ve got some time, check out Cory’s site. He’s got some great stuff coming in from some great artist (not to mention his own jaw-droppingly beautiful pieces).
Here is my original sketch for the piece:
